Smoking in the 21st century

Three guys are on a boat and they have four cigarettes, but no lighters or matches or anything to light it with. What do they do?

They throw one cigarette over board and the whole boat becomes a cigarette lighter.

It seems that smoking a real old fashioned cigarette will become a thing of the past very soon. You cannot smoke, at least in the western world, in any of the public buildings, restaurants or offices, some cities, like New Your City, outlawed smoking in whole boroughs, if not the whole city, prices for cigarettes are only getting higher and smokers are being frowned upon wherever they go. In such an environment it is almost impossible to be a passionate smoker and still enjoy it, but plenty do manage. Nevertheless, it is looking bleak for smokers, but there are still places in this world where it is even now as it is used to be.

Take for instance China; I read somewhere a weird statistic that Chinese smokers manage to burn through fifty thousand cigarettes per second! They take the crown of the largest number of smokers in the world; of all the smokers that exist a third calls China their homeland. No wonder that Shanghai is shrouded in smoke.

Did you know that most of the people who smoke are belonging to the poorer citizens and that statistically rich people smoke less? Did you also know that in the western world, but most prominently in the United States, smokers belonging to the female population are almost equal in number if not higher than the male population numbers? Also, in former communist countries the percentage of smokers in the population still almost outweighs the non-smokers, but numbers are starting to shift, particularly in those countries that were accepted into the EU as members.

Perhaps we all should move to France, where the percentage of smokers is increasing, or my pick may be to go to Austria, where the amount of women smoking is way above the male smoker numbers. Smoking is still viewed by many women as the best weight control aid, whereby women who stopped smoking all gained weight almost immediately. While there is no scientific proof that smoking reduces weight, it may seem that people who smoke rather not eat while smoking, so the food intake is reduced; on the other hand, people who stop smoking are used to using hands for something all the time, so food replaces the cigarette and there you go.
